Fri 8/7 — What accomplished leaders actually want
When accomplished leaders describe what they actually want, it is almost never a bigger title. Listen closely and it comes out quieter than that. To feel calm and confident in the room, instead of managing themselves through it. To make a decision without needing anyone's approval to feel sure of it. To say no without the guilt that trails them for days. To trust their own read of a situation the first time. These are not soft wishes. For a senior leader, they are the whole difference between performing authority and actually holding it. What I have found is that leaders who want these things rarely lack the skill to have them. They are deeply capable. What is missing is not competence. It is the restored footing that lets the competence run without the second-guessing sitting on top of it. That gap is specific, and it can be measured. It is also why I built a short assessment for exactly this, so a leader can see where their authority is steady and where it has quietly eroded. If you could keep just one of those four, which would change the most about how you lead?
