Your meetings aren't the bottleneck

Everyone complains about meetings. Almost no one complains about the real problem. Your meetings are not the bottleneck. Your unmade decisions are. Watch where time actually leaks in an organization. It is rarely the hour on the calendar. It is the three weeks a decision sits in limbo while the team waits, re-discusses, and works around the fact that no one will say yes or no. The meeting is just where the not-deciding becomes visible. Most leaders think they are being careful. What they are actually doing is transferring the cost of their hesitation onto everyone downstream, who cannot move until the call is made. A slow decision at the top becomes wasted weeks at the bottom. Speed is not recklessness. The best operators I work with make more decisions faster, and they are comfortable being wrong occasionally, because a reversible decision made this week beats a perfect one made next month. They know indecision is also a decision. It is just the most expensive one. If your team feels stuck, look up before you look down. The stall is usually a decision that never got made.
